Tennis Doubles Team Wins Division I State Championship

Senior Kentaro Akiyoshi and junior Ryan Zerbib combined to win the AIA Division I Doubles Championship on Monday at Paseo Racquet Club. They posted a 6-1, 6-2 win over Hamilton's Rishabh Bendre and Shravan Pulicherla.
“It was amazing to see them win today,” said Head Coach Chris Campbell ‘84. “It is something they have wanted to do for a long time. I put them together as a pair in our Los Angeles tournament so they could see good competition. Brophy has a long history of winning doubles championships, so it is nice to see it continue.”
They are the 17th Brophy doubles team to win an AIA State Championship and the fourth consecutive, joining Andre Johnson and Hadley Kukla in 2023, Jack and Hank Brown in 2022, and Kukla and Sean O’Gara in 2021. 
The team returns to action on Wednesday. On May 1 at 3 p.m., Brophy will host the quarterfinals against Chaparral at Xavier.
