Brophy’s Sean Kennedy Named NIAAA Student-Athlete Scholarship Winner

Brophy senior Sean Kennedy was honored as the Arizona State Male Winner in the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA) Student-Athlete Scholarship Competition.

He received a plaque from the NIAAA recognizing their accomplishment and a $500.00 check from the Arizona Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (AIAAA).

Sean has been a three-year letter-winner and team captain for the Broncos for Head Coach Wayne Catan. He was a two-time recipient of the Chris Franklin Award (2023, 2024) and was named the Most Improved Wrestler in 2023. He qualified for the AIA Division I State Championships twice.

Sean also participated on the Brophy swimming and diving team, earning all-region honors and placing 10th in the state in diving in 2023. His favorite Brophy memory is his Kairos retreat. Sean plans to major in engineering.

The National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association’s (NIAAA) purpose is to promote, facilitate, and increase the knowledge and understanding of the vital role of interscholastic athletics in the educational system. This scholarship program recognizes the partnership between the NIAAA and secondary education. The scholarships will recognize high school student-athletes with distinguished academic, leadership, and sportsmanship attributes and the importance of high school athletics in each student’s life.

Xavier’s Lourdes Lauterborn was the girl's winner in the state.

Kennedy has been accepted to the United States Naval Academy and will join the wrestling program.
