Bronco Athletics

Bronco athletics are for everyone...

Brophy offers something for everyone in athletics, such as fielding teams in 11 6A Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA) sports and six club sports. Additionally, in 2019-20, Brophy added the AIA-sanctioned esports program that perennially has landed at the top of the competition.

No-cut AIA programs include (fall) freshman football, tennis, and cross country; (winter) wrestling; (spring) track and field and a developmental tennis program; and club sports—crew, archery, lacrosse, hockey, rugby, and mountain biking.

Brophy teams have earned 111 state championships in the school's history, with swimming (42 state titles) and tennis (21 state titles) sports dynasties that have gained national attention. In 2023-24, 37 senior athletes signed to play NCAA sports at colleges nationwide.

AIA Fall Sports

Fall sports that compete as AIA-sanctioned sports include cross country, football, golf and swim and dive. Anyone interested in distance running is invited to come out for cross country. Football fields freshman, junior varsity and varsity teams with no cuts. Golf and swim and dive schedule tryouts each August. Freshmen are also invited to participate in freshman tennis as a precursor to the competitive spring program.

What is #BST?
Have you seen this hashtag on Brophy football social media? It stands for Brophy Standard Time. Coach Jason Jewell explains that the BST time zone means being at practice early and prepared — challenging yourself to grow personally and athletically.

AIA Winter Sports

Winter sports that compete as AIA-sanctioned sports include basketball, soccer and wrestling. Basketball fields freshman, junior varsity and varsity teams. Soccer fields junior varsity, JVB and varsity teams. Wrestling is no-cut with students competing individually in their appropriate weight class.

What is Manresa?
Manresa is Brophy's retreat center on the banks of Oak Creek outside of Sedona. Teams start their season by traveling to Manresa for team building, spending time outdoors, reflection and prayer.

Spring Sports

Spring sports that compete as AIA-sanctioned sports are baseball, tennis, track and field and volleyball. Baseball and volleyball field freshman, junior varsity and varsity teams. Tennis fields a varsity team but also offers a developmental league. Track and field is a no-cut sport that welcomes competitors from all track and field categories.

What is AMDG?
You see it on our uniforms but what does it mean? AMDG stands for Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam, or for the greater glory of God. As a Jesuit school, we compete AMDG. We welcome all faiths and encourage our student-athletes to allow their faith and beliefs to nurture and inspire their efforts.

Club Sports

Brophy offers six thriving club sports as part of its athletic program. Students can sign up for lacrosse, crew, archery, rugby, hockey or mountain biking. Club sports offer robust competitive programs and in 2022-23 archery and lacrosse won state titles and crew had national finishers at the U.S. Youth Nationals.

What about intramurals?
Yes, Brophy has an intramural program that's just for fun! It is organized through the Student Activities Office and sports vary from year to year. Recent intramural sports include basketball, dodgeball, handball and tchouball.
