This is Fr. Anton Renna, SJ
Fr. Anton "Sam" Renna taught English at Brophy for 45 years. He and I had a good relationship and he was always someone I admired but we didn’t become close friends until my second year as principal. The Jesuit superior at the time met with me to tell me that Fr. Renna’s health was in decline and he needed to scale back the number of classes he was teaching. Effective immediately. It was October. So, Sam and I developed a friendship that was born out of shared resentment toward his Jesuit superior. Sam was a true scholar and loved his students. He’s an enduring reminder for me of the importance, and the impact, of the classroom teacher.
