2021-22 Brophy Esports Season Recap 

Here are the highlights of the 2021-22 Esports seasons:

  • The Brophy Esports program won a National Championship (Overwatch), two state championships (Rocket League), two state runner-up finishes (League of Legends), and a PlayVS Pacific Youth Region title (Overwatch) and a runner-up finish (Overwatch) in 2021-22.  
  • Brophy competed in both the fall and spring seasons in League of Legends, Overwatch, Rocket League, and Super Smash Brothers.
  • Brophy Zephyr was dominant in Overwatch in the spring season, winning the National Championship at the PlayVS Cup. They also won the PlayVS Spring Youth Pacific Region title and garnered the No. 1 ranking during the regular season. The spring roster included Spencer Cowles '23, Wesley Fulton '23, Rohan Godha '24, Holden Huber '22, Christian Johnsen '23, Austin Kerr '22, Asher Martin '23, Jonathan Mena '22, and Jacob Sesate '23. 
  • Brophy Iota won the Spring AIA Rocket League title after earning a No. 4 regular-season ranking. The team included Brian Bojorquez Galvez'22, Elijah Gass '22, Jonathan Mena '22, and John Reyes-Reed '23. The Brophy Sigma team earned a No. 1 regular season ranking and advanced to the Top 16 in the playoffs. 
  • League of Legends Initium was the spring state runner-up after finishing ranked third in the regular season. 
  • The Brophy Smash team was ranked No. 9 in the regular spring season and advanced to the Top 16 in the playoffs.  
  • In the fall, the Brophy Overwatch Zephyr team was the PlayVS Western Youth Regional Runner-up. 
  • The Broncos captured the Rocket League Fall AIA Championship with their Brophy Iota team including Brian Bojorquez Galvez ‘22, Elijah Gass ‘22, Mena ‘22 and Bobby Munhall ‘23. The Brophy Sigma team reached the AIA quarterfinals. 
  • The fall League of Legends team was the AIA state runner-up, while the fall Brophy Smash and Probis teams had semifinal and quarterfinal finishes. 
  • Johnathan Mena '22 finished his high school esports career with four State Rocket League Championships, three Regional Overwatch Championships, and a National Overwatch Championship.  Elijah Gass '22 and Brian Bojorquez Galvez '22 finished theirs with 3 Rocket League State Championships.
