Sweetman Reaches the State Final at 215; Three Earn All-State Honors

Senior Jackson Sweetman recorded a 9-7 decision over Ethan Austin of Perry in the semifinals at 215 points to reach the finals at the AIA State Championships. He will wrestle Saturday night against Maddox Botma of Liberty.

Sweetman trailed 7-4 entering the third period but out-scored Austin 5-0 in the final period, capped by a takedown with 32 seconds left.

Junior Adam Angulo lost his semifinal match to Vaughn Strobel of Casteel 7-4. He will face Rylan Moss in the consolation semifinals. Sophomore Landon Jurek stayed alive with a win in the wrestle-back to reach the consolation semifinals on Saturday. 

All three have secured all-state recognition, with final placing decided on Saturday starting at 11 a.m. with consolation brackets and championship finals at 4:30 p.m. at Veteran’s Memorial Coliseum.
