Football Wins Home Opener over Regis Jesuit (Colo.)

The Brophy football team posted a  44-0 win over Regis Jesuit (Colo.) in their home opener on Friday at Central High School. 
The Broncos scored 37 second-half points after taking a 7-0 lead at the half. Junior quarterback Rylan Umphrey threw for two touchdowns, finding Daylen Sharper and Devin Fitzgerald for third-quarter scores, and junior quarterback Case Vanden Bosch rushed for three touchdowns in the fourth quarter, finishing with 47 yards on 10 carries. 
Senior running back Carlos Estrada tallied the opening touchdown, finishing a first-quarter drive for the early lead. The game would remain tied for the rest of the half before the Broncos broke open the game in the second half.
Umphrey finished 15-for-19 for 161 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 82 yards, highlighted by a 70-yard run that set up the score for Sharper. Fitzgerald led the team with five receptions for 78 yards and a touchdown. Nassim Isaac and Donovan McNabb Jr. each had threw catches. 
Junior Bastian Vanden Bosch led the defensive shutout effort with three sacks among 3.5 tackles for loss with a fumble recovery and two hurries. Colin Aramian added two fumble recoveries as Regis Jesuit was held out of the end zone. It was the first shutout for the program since a 21-0 win over Pinnacle in 2021. 
The Broncos are at Centennial on Sept. 13 at 7 p.m.
