Lacrosse Standout Josh Buse to Play at Queen (N.C.) University.

Brophy senior Josh Buse has committed to playing and attending Queens (N.C.) University. The Lions are a Division I school located in Charlotte, N.C., and play in the Atlantic Sun Conference.

“The coaching staff was super welcoming when I went on a visit,” said Buse. “I feel like I was not a number and they wanted me as a person and player. I can be an impact player and have a special role on the team. I hope to contribute early. The location in Charlotte is awesome, with the mountains and super pretty.”

Buse has been a standout for the Broncos. He was an A.L.L. first-team selection in 2024 after leading the team to the State Championship, tying for the team lead with 63 goals and totaling 15 assists. He has been a three-year letter-winner, tallying 155 points, 126 goals, 29 assists, and three state titles in his career.

“It has been awesome and the highlight of my Brophy experience,” said Buse of the team’s three titles. “We have put in so much hard work and come together as a team every year on and off the field. We have trusted each other and know that with our talent, we will compete for the fourth title.”

Buse started playing in fifth grade, following in his brother’s footsteps.

“My parents and brother forced me to play lacrosse,” said Buse. “I fell in love with the hard work, working out, and playing lacrosse. I want to thank my family for their unwavering support and love. My parents, brothers, sisters, grandparents, and extended family have been my rock. Your support and sacrifices have been invaluable to my success."

Head Coach Pat Harbeson has seen the growth in Buse due to his dedication.

“Josh Buse will leave Brophy as one of the most prolific scorers in school history,” said Harbeson. “Outside of the points and his noteworthy commitment to play Division I lacrosse at Queens University, Josh's work ethic stands out. Josh came to Brophy with lofty aspirations; however, he had to learn the value of hard work and dedication to his craft. In doing so, Josh committed to the weight room and elevated his level of play and those around him.”

Buse will major in business and finance at Queens but still has another title to chase this spring.

“Josh knows that a lot will be asked from him this spring, and I look for him to continue to rise to the occasion while he and his fellow seniors look to be the first program to win four consecutive Arizona state championships,” said Harbeson.

Buse is thankful for Harbeson’s impact on his Brophy experience.

“Coach Pat has been the cornerstone of my lacrosse career,” said Buse. “Starting freshman year, he was always hard on me and pushing me. He made me do things I was not comfortable with, and I questioned why he was doing it. Looking back, he did it because he wanted me to be the best player I could be. He is the one person who called coaches, invited me to shoot, and always believed in me, knowing I could be a good lacrosse player.”

The lessons Buse has learned from lacrosse have impacted his life in every way.

“Through tough practices, early mornings, and many failures, I have learned resilience, hard work, and dedication and added it to my relationships, school, and everyday life."

Buse will participate in Brophy’s Collegiate Commitment Celebration on Nov. 13.
