Brophy senior Harrison Yu has committed to playing lacrosse and attending Colorado College, a Division III school in Colorado Springs, Colo., that plays in the Heartland Collegiate Lacrosse Conference.
“It was important to be part of a program where I was wanted and could make a difference on the field,” said Yu.
He will play for Head Coach Mike Horowitz, who has led the program since 2021. He has led the program to two HCLC titles and appearances and the NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Championship.
“I liked the Colorado College campus, what it had to offer academically, the coaches, and facilities after a visit,” said Yu, who plans to study pre-law track. “It took me a while to decide, but it ultimately came down to Coach Horowitz and the coaching staff telling me I was an example of how they wanted the future of their team to look. I could be instrumental in pushing transition on the field and building the program back up.”
Yu was named to the All-Arizona Lacrosse first team in 2024 after recording 49 ground balls, and 21 caused turnovers, adding 14 goals and 17 assists.
“Harrison is a pit bull,” said Head Coach Pat Harbeson. “He plays the game tenaciously and with a relentless motor. Harrison carries a massive chip on his shoulder and is the type of player who will prove you wrong if you tell him he can't do something.”
Harrison came to Brophy as a defender and switched positions out of the greater good of the program. He carved out a role and has been selected as back-to-back Player of the Year at his respective position. I know he will make an immediate impact at Colorado College.”
He has won three Arizona Lacrosse State titles over his first three seasons.
“Being on the championship team the last few years has been super special to me,” said Yu. “I never thought I would be a part of something as special as that. The camaraderie that comes with Brophy and the lacrosse team. My teammates are some of my best friends, and seeing how hard work on and off the field has come to fruition with three state championships. Every year, we get better and want to win and to be great.”
Yu was also an All-Arizona Lacrosse All-State 1st team selection after his sophomore season and ranked sixth in the state in ground balls. He scored his second goal of the season in the championship game, one of his favorite memories, running over to the sideline and celebrating with his teammates.
“I have known Coach Pat since I played middle school when he coached for the Outlaws,” recalled Yu. “Being able to be coached further by him has been a blessing. He has been the cornerstone of my recruiting process and one of my biggest supporters. He has pushed me to be the best player and person I can be. I can not ask for a better coach. He gets me out on weekends shooting and running when no one else is even up. He sets an excellent example for all of us and instills that we should always strive to be the best version of ourselves.”
Yu will participate in Brophy’s Collegiate Commitment Celebration on Nov. 13.
