Senior Offensive Lineman Anderson Kopp to Sign with Kansas

Senior offensive lineman Anderson Kopp has committed to Kansas University and will officially sign with the Jayhawks on Dec. 4. He follows his father, Kevin, and the family legacy at the school where he played from 1992-96.

“The fact that I already know where I am going to and playing in college is amazing,” said Kopp before the season. “It helps make senior year less stressful. I have already made connections with future teammates out there. I know my roommates already, and it is special that my dad has played there. He grew up with KU blood, and I grew up with KU. The fact I get to honor his legacy is cool. I also have family that live in Kansas and two cousins who attend school there. It is a full circle moment.”

Kopp will play for Head Coach Lance Liepold, who watched Kopp and the Broncos play in person this season when in town to play Arizona State. The Jayhawks are finishing the season strong, including a win over ranked Colorado, a game Kopp attended in person on November 23.

“I have been excited about my commitment,” said Kopp. “It is something I have wanted for the last 10 years. I have always been a KU fan. Attending the game in Kansas City was fun, and it included 13 of the players from the class. They are great dudes, and the fan base showed out at the game. Many good things are happening, and I am excited for the future.”

Kopp was named one of two season-long captains, along with defensive back Cree Thomas, and helped the Broncos to an 8-2 regular season record and the top seed in the AIA 6A Conference playoffs. Before the season, Kopop was named to the Fiesta Bowl Preseason All-State team and was an All-Central Region first team following the season.

“Four years ago, if you told me Anderson would grow into a two-time all-state center and sign with Kansas, I would have been skeptical. I didn't know then what I know now, how hard of a worker Anderson would be,” said Head Coach Jason Jewell. “I didn't know how much of a leader he would grow to be. I didn't know how much energy he would bring. We have a saying in our weight room and at practice that energy is contagious; Anderson brought energy all day, every day, without fail. Now, he will accomplish his childhood dream of playing at Kansas, where his father played and his mother went to school. Seeing this happen is why you coach football.”

Kopp will participate in the Brophy Collegiate Signogn Day Celebration on Dec. 4.
