Brophy senior Carson Scarbrough will attend and run track and field at Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Mo. The Jesuit school competes in NCAA Division II.
“I was looking for an opportunity to attend a Jesuit school and researched what schools I could attend and compete for in track,” said Scarbrough. “Rockhurst was an intriguing option. I visited in December and appreciated the small campus feel, community, and athletics. I was compelled to go there.”
He will compete for Head Coach Cole Bosley, whose team qualified 24 student-athletes to the indoor and outdoor GLVC conference championships in his first season.
Scarbrough posted a personal-best 24.61 in the 200 meters in the Senior Meet on April 9 and was part of the winning 4x400-meter relay at the dual meet with Horizon and North Canyon on March 19. He has been a four-year member of the program.
“It has meant a lot to me to compete in track and field,” said Scarbrough. “I could not have predicted freshman year that I could have dropped basketball to compete in track. It has been a great experience. I have met some talented and compassionate individuals in the sport, trained with some of the best in the nation, and been coached by some all-time greats. It has been a unique experience I would not have gotten with any other sport.”
He lists winning the Aztec Invitational as his favorite memory from his junior season. He participated in the final 4x400m relay that clinched the meet win over Desert Vista by three points.
“Carson is our most dedicated athlete on our track and field team,” said Head Coach Bill Kalkman. “He has worked at track year-round throughout his high school career. Carson was elected to be one of our 2025 team captains. He consistently is the first to practice, and he is our leader who gets practice started. His great work ethic and attention to detail have helped him develop as an athlete and are a model for our team.”
Scarbrough followed his brother, Evan ‘24, to Brophy, and his younger brother, Miles ‘28, is completing his freshman year.
“I find the sport rewarding,” said Scarbrough. “Everything is up to you from your determination and your success. It is all linear. You have the mark or you do not, and it is in your control.”
He has also developed his faith while at Brophy, and his participation in school masses, including his role in the Mass Choir and as an usher, has driven his spiritual life.
He will participate in the Brophy Signing Day event on Wednesday, April 23.
