Brophy Represented in the Super Bowl by Alums Isaiah Oliver ‘15, Fred Gammage III ‘12

Brophy College Prep will be represented in the Super Bowl next week when the San Francisco 49ers take on the Kansas City Chiefs in Las Vegas. Alum Isaiah Oliver ‘15 is a starting defensive back for the 49ers, while Fred Gammage ‘12 is in his fourth season with the 49ers as a pro personnel scout.

It is the second consecutive season with a Brophy connection in the Super Bowl (Devon Allen ’13, Philadelphia Eagles, Practice Squad in 2023)

Oliver played both wide receiver and cornerback at Brophy in 2013-14. He was a three-star recruit according to ESPN.com and committed to Colorado over offers from Arizona and New Mexico.

“I learned the importance of hard work at Brophy,” said Oliver this week. “During my time at Brophy, I understood how hard you have to work for the things you want in life. Being a football player and playing in the NFL, I understood it would take a lot of hard work to get here and stay here. I learned the importance of being a good teammate and looking out for others not only doing what is what is best for yourself but what is best for the collective.”

He recorded 1,352 receiving yards with 12 touchdowns, the second-best total in the nation (Maxpreps) and third-best in school history, and a school-record seven interceptions in 2014.

While his records will always be part of the record books, Oliver learned the ultimate lesson of legacy during his time at Brophy.

“How you treat people will be how you are remembered,” said Oliver. “It is one of the most important things I learned while attending Brophy was being a Man for Others.”

On the track and field team, he holds track and field school records in the 400 meters (20.75), the 4x400-meter relay (3:16.84) with Bobby Grant, J. Rubenzer, and Devon Allen, and the decathlon (7,009). He was a state champion in both hurdles (110 hurdles, 14.05; 300, 36.54) and 4x400-meter relay (3:18.55) in 2015.

“Isaiah was a great character guy,” said Head Brophy Track and Field Coach Bill Kalkman. “When it came to performing, he always rose to the occasion. He trained as a decathlete so he was well-versed in all events. He was a great athlete and leader. He was a pleasure to work with.”

The second Super Bowl connection is with alum Fred Gammage III ‘12, who is in his fourth season with the 49ers as a pro personnel scout. He joined San Francisco from Arizona State where he served as assistant director of player personnel for the 2018 season. He was a wide receiver for the Sun Devils from 2013-16, registering 527 yards and three touchdowns. He is the Brophy single-season receiving touchdown leader with 15 in 2011, ahead of Devon Allen  (14, 2011) and Oliver (12, 2014).
