Get to Know: Football's #52 Anderson Kopp

Anderson Kopp has been named one of two season-long captains, along with defensive back Cree Thomas. He has committed to play at Kansas University next fall, following his father’s legacy at the school where he played from 1992-96. Prior to the season, Anderson was named to the Fiesta Bowl Preseason All-State team.

How are you excited for the season and the “Unfinished Business”?
“I am looking forward to trying to make the Open playoffs and win the Open Division. I am looking forward to senior year. It is the last year before college; everyone tells me to live in the moment. I want to take in everything and one last season with my boys. I want to be a leader on the team and play one last year with my best friends.”

How fun is having such a talented group of position players on the offensive line?
“It is so much fun. We have a talented team, and having the group be all my best friends is excellent. It helps with the reps in practice to go against talented players every day to get ready for Friday. Iron sharpens iron! You want all the competition in the world, and we can get it every day in practice.”

What did it mean to you to be named a captain?
“It is a huge deal. I have thought about being named captain since my freshman year. I remember when Taj Hughes and Josh Minton were named, and I wanted to be like those guys. It means a lot that the team trusted me enough to be their captain. There is no more significant honor in the world. But I am not the only captain on this team. There are so many other leaders on this team. I try to inspire, but I want them all to be leaders. I will try to lead the best I can.”

Talk about your commitment to Kansas and being a legacy recruit following in your father’s footsteps.
“The fact that I already know I am going to and playing in college is amazing. It helps make senior year less stressful. I have already made connections with future teammates out there. I know my roommates already, and with my dad playing there. He grew up with KU blood, and I grew up with KU. The fact I can go there to play and honor his legacy is cool. I also have family that live in Kansas and two cousins who attend school there. It is a full circle moment.”

What are you looking forward to the most about the first home game?
“It is the best to play at home in front of our fans, walk over, and see everyone in the stands. It is exciting to play another Jesuit school. Playing at home is just a different atmosphere.”
