Football’s Rodriguez to Sign with George Fox University

Brophy football senior Nik Rodriguez has committed to playing football and attending school at George Fox University in Newberg, Oregon.

“It came down to the big family aspect to their program,” said Rodriguez. “I felt I fit well with their scheme and how they run and use the receivers. The slot position fits me, the campus is beautiful, and their facilities are brand new.”

Rodriguez will play for Head Coach Chris Casey, who just completed his 11th year at George Fox. The Bruins play in the NCAA Division III Northwest Conference, which is comprised of nine private colleges and universities in Washington and Oregon.

“The head coach reached out to me, and I talked to the offensive coordinator and the school of business,” said Rodriguez. “The School of Business has a good plan for their students, and they have a great connection with Nike which will help in my plan to study marketing.”

Rodriguez was a two-year letter winner for the Broncos and helped the team to the AIA 6A Conference semifinals, a 10-win season, and a Central Region title in 2023. He had two receptions for 42 yards on the season.

“My favorite memory was the Mingus 7on7 tournament last summer,” recalled Rodriguez. “It was fun to win it as a team. I also enjoyed the travel to Cathedral Catholic for the Honor Bowl. It was fun to get a glimpse into the college lifestyle with a road trip.”

Head Coach Jason Jewell is excited for him to continue at George Fox.

“Nik is one of the hardest working and determined young men in this senior class,” said Jewell. “Nik is a technician, always working on his craft, and a silent leader who lets his actions speak for him. George Fox is getting a player that I know will give it his all, all the time.”

Rodriguez considered numerous schools in his college search, garnering 26 offers to continue his career.

“I did not think about college recruitment until this time last year,” said Rodriguez. “My trainer was a coach at Arizona Christian and hooked me up with the staff at ACU. I went to a few camps and got offers, and it was fun to see different opportunities.”

Now, he has his college chosen and the path is in front of him at George Fox University.

“I am very excited,” said Rodrigue. “I love the opportunity to compete day in and day out. Football allows me to compete on the field and in the weight room. It is fun to continue in college.”

Rodriguez will participate in the Brophy Football Signing Day Celebration on February 8 at 7:15 a.m. in the Robson Gymnasium.
