Baseball Opens All Faiths Classic with Win over No. 11 Valley Christian

Senior Trey Markham stroked an RBI single in the last of the sixth, giving Brophy College Prep a 1-0 win over the 11th-ranked team in the nation by MaxPreps Valley Christian (Calif.) in the All-Faiths Classic Monday opening game at Bishop Gorman.

It was a sparkling pitching duel between Brophy's Jack Ohman (1-2) and Valley Christian's Quinten Marsh. Yale commit Ohman pitched six innings, allowing three hits with no walks and four Ks. Stanford commit Marsh gave up the lone run in six innings, allowing just two hits, walking four, and striking out 10.

“Jack has had a slow start on the mound this year, but I’ve been able to watch him adjust from outing to outing,” said Head Coach Josh Garcia ‘07. “This outing, we were able to see who Jack truly is, and that’s a very competitive pitcher with shutdown stuff. He kept a talented team off-balance for 6 innings, and I’m so proud of how he competed today.”

Michael Horne allowed two hits in the seventh, but the Broncos threw out a runner at the plate, and Horne ended the game on a strikeout. Brophy has now won eight straight games.

Brophy moved its record to 12-3. Valley Christian is 10-2.

Brophy plays the Mt. Carmel-Regis winner at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The game will be available on the NFHS Network.
