Junior Cree Thomas placed sixth in the decathlon with a career-best 5,608 points at the Arizona State Multi Championships on Friday and Saturday at Red Mountain HS. Thomas was the decathlon state championships junior silver medalist, while freshman Max Columbus was the silver medalist in his class.
Thomas had personal bests in the discus and javelin and finished among the top three in three events: 110m hurdles (2nd, 15.84, 781 points), discus (3rd, 119-9, 594 points), and high jump (3rd, 5-10.75, 627 points).
Columbus had personal bests in four events: 110m hurdles, 1500m, discus, and long jump to conclude his first prep season. Root has personal bests in the hurdles, long jump, and pole vault.
