Golf Wins Brophy Rodeo National High School Invitational Presented by PING

The Broncos won the Brophy Rodeo National High School Invitational presented by PING with a one-shot victory over second-place finishers Lone Peak (Utah) and Catalina Foothills (Tucson) 592-593 at the Grayhawk Golf Raptor course. Scottsdale Notre Dame Prep was fourth, with Corner Canyon (Utah) at 595.

“We played exceptionally well after a rocky start,” said Head Coach Jon Shores. “The takeaway is being able to finish strong when it is not going your way and to fight and stay in the mix and we did that today. We did not finish strong today but we were able to pull out the win.”

Casteel won the girl's title by two strokes over Xavier 601-603 on the Talon course. Xavier sophomore Alexis Lamadrid won the individual title by a stroke over Julia Herzberf of Casteel.

Catalina Foothills junior Chase Cesarek eagled the 18th hole to finish the second round at one-under-par with a two-day total of 140 with rounds of 69-71. He surpassed Lone Peak (Utah) senior Kihei Akina, the clubhouse leader, at 141 with rounds of 72-69. Windermere (Fla.) senior Cameron Baez was third after leading after 18 holes, posting a two-under-par 142 (67-75).

Brophy senior Dylan Boenning was the top finisher in eighth overall with rounds of 68-77 to finish at 145. Sophomore Asher Nelson shot a team-best 75 to finish in a tie for 11th at 146. Sophomore Evan Tyree was tied for 18th (149, 69-80), while junior Adone Panattoni tied for 37th after a 78 on Saturday for a 155.

Senior Scottie Belgrad shot a five-over-par 77 on Saturday, providing the fourth counting score for the Broncos. It was the first round for Belgrad this season.

Brophy’s one-stroke victory secured the fourth consecutive team title for the Broncos in the event since moving to the Grayhawk Golf Course.
