Football’s Jorden Cunningham Commits to the University of New Mexico

Senior offensive lineman Jorden Cunningham made his commitment official over the weekend to playing and attending school at the University of New Mexico in the fall.

“I chose the University of New Mexico because of the coaches,” said Cunningham. “All the position coaches played under Coach Mendenhall at BYU or Virginia. They have a strong program, and I believe they will turn the program around and make me a really good athlete.”

New Mexico finished the 2024 campaign at 5-7 and 3-4 in the Mountain West Conference.

Cunningham just completed his senior year, helping the Broncos reach the AIA 6A Conference Semifinals. He started at right tackle. The Arizona Republic ranked him the No. 54 prospect in the state in the Class of 2025 Top 150 (August 2024).

“It is a blessing to play in college,” said Cunningham, whose father Rick played at Texas A&M and in the NFL. “Last year, I just wanted to start on the varsity team, and now I am attending a Division I school. I am excited.”

He had offers from New Mexico, New Mexico State, and Eastern Washington.

“What a transition Jorden has made since he arrived at Brophy,” said Head Coach Jason Jewell. “He showed up as a 209-pound basketball player and worked himself into a 280-pound scholarship offensive tackle. None of it came easy. Imagine moving to a new country, not knowing anyone, attempting football for the first time in years, and adapting to the academic rigors of Brophy. But Jorden did it. And he should be incredibly proud of himself. He is now signing a full-ride scholarship offer. It doesn't get more big-time than that!”

Before his junior season, Cunningham transferred to Brophy from LaurenHill Academy in Quebec, Canada.

“I will always remember everyone who pushed me and how hard I worked,” said Cunningham. “Brophy helped make me what I am today. I want to continue having that work ethic and mindset.”

Cunningham is part of a senior-laden offensive line led by Wisconsin commit Logan Powell, and Kansas commit Anderson Kopp.

“I had a really strong bond with Anderson,” said Cunningham. “We worked out together and pushed each other. Having him was a blessing. Logan and I were competitive, so we always worked to improve.”

Cunningham will participate in the Brophy Collegiate Signing Day Celebration on Dec. 4.
