Basketball Advances to AIA 6A Conference Semifinals

AVONDALE - The Brophy College Prep basketball team posted a 63-55 win over No. 4 seed West Point on the road Friday to advance to play No. 1 seed Highland.

The teams will face off in one of two semifinals on Wednesday, March 5. No. 2 Liberty will host No. 11 Mesa in the other semifinals for the 6A State Championship game berths on March 8.

Junior Daylen Sharper led the team with 19 points, while Luke Wieskamp had a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Senior Ryan Burbach added 13 in the win.

Brophy trailed 39-36 at the half but held the Dragons to five third-quarter points to take a five-point lead (49-44) entering the final quarter. The Broncos out-shot the Dragons by 10 at the line but only made 15-fo-28 on the night.

Sharper had 10 second-half points to fuel the second-half rally; Kai Hogan hit a big triple to end the third quarter, and Wieskamp had eight of his 17 in the second half.

The matchup with Brophy and Highland is a 2023 6A Conference State Championship game rematch. Highland defeated No. 8 Williams Field 71-44 in the quarterfinals.
