Daylen Sharper is a second-year varsity player who also starred on the football team in the fall. He was named the Honor Bowl MVP in September. He was named to the 2023 Central Region honorable mention team. He was also a Premier Region second-team choice as a freshman on the hardwood last season.
The team had a big win with the victory over Prescott to advance in the AIA Open Division playoffs on Wednesday. How is the team feeling about the win and the opportunity to play another home game?
“We are happy and excited to get the win. It was a big win. We did not come out super strong but we picked it up to secure the win. After the game when we found out we had a home game, we were excited.”
What are you enjoying about basketball in your second season on the varsity team?
“I feel more connected with everyone on the team. We battle more and it is fun to battle with these guys to make our reality.”
What was your favorite memory from the football season?
“My favorite memory was going to San Diego to play Cathedral Catholic. It was a good experience with the team.”
What is your memory of earning MVP honors at the game?
“I was surprised. I knew I had a good game but a lot of guys had great games too. I was surprised and glad to have the opportunity.”
You have had college offers in both basketball and football. What does it mean to you to have that early recognition?
“It means a lot to me. I have always wanted to play high-level sports since I was a little kid. The offers show me I have a lot of potential. It gives me motivation to work harder to get where I want to go.”
How have you improved from your freshman season on the basketball court?
“I am learning the game better and having more control. Sometimes I get sped up and make mistakes like last year. But when I slow myself down and play my own game, I have got better at controlling the game and making the right plays.”
