Lacrosse Wins Fight Like Flo Game

On Tuesday, the Brophy lacrosse program defeated Pinnacle 18-3 in the third annual Fight Like Flo game. The Broncos exploded for 10 goals in the second period. Erik Volfson led the team with five goals, while Laird Miller added three. Deion James had 11 groundballs and 18 face-off wins. The victory improved the Broncos to 8-0 on the season.

But the real winner on the night was the Fight Like Flo Foundation.

The game is played annually to celebrate Kylie "Flo" Rodgers, XCP grad ('19) and sister of Brophy alumni lax player Noah Rodgers ('22). Kylie was a softball pitcher at XCP, a leader, a comedian, an intellectual, a fashionista, a fierce friend, and an overall amazing human being who battled Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer, for five years, and sadly passed away in 2021 at the young age of 20. But in those 20 years, she profoundly impacted and did incredible things. Kylie’s light, love, and force rippled outward. Her mantra was “Be a Good Human,” despite her numerous challenges, and she consistently practiced grace and kindness throughout her life. Kylie lived life to the fullest, inspired everyone around her to do and be better, and captivated anyone she met with her determination.

“Fight Like Flo” became the battle call for all of us who had the pleasure of knowing and loving her, and continues to inspire all of us to be our best selves, on and off the field. The Fight Like Flo game was established by Cole Rassas (Brophy Lax '22), Noah Rodgers, and the incredible Brophy coaches and players in 2022 to celebrate Kylie, honor her legacy, and most importantly, raise funding to donate to her most treasured pediatric cancer research organizations.

In an incredible gesture of compassion and support, the Pinnacle Lacrosse program joined this effort, honoring Kylie's spirit of rising above competition towards compassion. In 2022, we donated over $2000 to the Northwest Sarcoma Foundation. In 2023, we donated over $5000 to Lighthouse for Hope, a local pediatric cancer support organization that Kylie loved.

Our Why

This year, on February 27, the Fight Like Flo game will benefit Kylie's OWN foundation, The Fight Like Flo Foundation, which she created in 2020, and which Blake, Noah, and Mary Kay Rogers have become stewards and finally established as a non-profit to continue Kylie's mission: to support young adolescents battling cancer and their families, kids just like her, with research, support, and programming. To truly make an impact, we also created a separate funding pipeline called Be A Good Human, Inc., which is owned by the Fight Like Flo Foundation, and because of AZ non-profit tax structures, can donate 100% of its profits to the FLF Foundation (think Newman's Own Foundation on a much smaller scale). Be A Good Human, Inc. will soft launch in February 2024 online, and sell coffee (Kylie's favorites), tea, and merch to create a consistent funding stream for the Fight Like Flo Foundation in addition to donations and fundraising events.
