Track and Field’s Cannizzo Commits to Grand Canyon University

Brophy senior Luca Cannizzo has committed to running at Grand Canyon University after a standout season with the Broncos.

“I am excited to continue my running career at a great school,” said Cannizzo, who plans to study business. “I want to keep working to get better.”

Cannizzo was named the Willie Jones Most Valuable Sprinter at the postseason team banquet. In the 400 meters this season, he was fifth (48.20) at the AIA Open Division meet and third (48.32) at the AIA Division I Meet. Cannizzo ran a personal-best 48.03 in the 400 in winning the Northeast Valley title. It was the fastest 400 meters since former Bronco Isaiah Oliver set the school record (47.13) in 2015.

Cannizzo participated in the fourth-place 4x400m relay at the Division I meet, which was the second-fastest time in school history. He was also part of the winning Sprint Medley Relay at the Arcadia Invitational, which set a school record time 1:33.68.

“It has been great working hard with all my teammates and running in championship meets,” said Cannizzo.

He was a four-year letter winner and was an AZSports360 All-Academic honorable mention selection in 2024.
