Get to Know: #25 Dominic Woods

Dominic Woods has been a four-year player in the program and is making an impact this season. He has led the team in tackles in four of the five games and leads the team overall with 39. He had a key ack last week for a safety in the win over Notre Dame Prep as the Broncos posted their second shutout of the season. He enjoys playing basketball and has three siblings.

What are you most excited about your play and impact this season on the team?
“I have proved to myself that I am a good player. I like the way I can come down and make a hit.”

What has been the difference for you this season?
“In the offseason, I underwent a lot of change as a player and grew. The people around me gave me the opportunity, and I have tried to take advantage of it.”

What are your college goals?
“I want to go out of state for college. I would like to go to an Ivy. Dartmouth is my No. 1 choice. Attending an Ivy League school sets up your life after college.”

What sparked your interest in attending Brophy?
“It started with my cousin, Marques White, attending school here. When I got the opportunity, I just lived it.”

You commit daily to get to school with your commute from the West Valley. Why has it been worth it?
“I live far away from Brophy -127th Ave and Glendale. It is quite a trip every day. It takes at least an hour each way, and I leave at 4 a.m. for practice. I take the I-10 down. But, the opportunity to be here at Brophy with the academics and sports is not something I am going to get anywhere else.”

What has been the key to the defensive unit being successful?
“We keep growing and getting better. The difference from our first game to now is big. We are always getting better. The defensive linemen are doing a good job, which helps me out.”

What does it feel like to be an impact player for the team this year?
“It is honestly a great feeling, especially compared to last year when I didn’t play. I was sitting on the bench and playing special teams. Finally, being on the field is great.”

You suffered an injury last year against Basha. How hard was it to sit out last season?
“It was depressing. I didn’t want to show up, so I questioned what I was doing. I grew from it, and sticking it out was worth it.”
