Golfer Dylan Boenning Committed to Washington State

Senior golfer Dylan Boenning has committed to play golf at Washington State. He is the eighth Brophy player to commit to playing Division I golf over the last four years.

“It means everything,” said Boenning about the opportunity. “I knew starting in the eighth grade and coming into high school, playing college golf was something I wanted to do. I had played many different sports as a kid - flag football and basketball. You name it, I played it. I have played golf since I was three; my first tournament was when I was five. I have a passion for it more than any other sport. It has been my dream.”

A  Washington State assistant saw him play at a tournament in April 2024. After a phone call and visit to Pullman, he made his commitment official on May 11.

“When I went on my visit, I was very comfortable on the campus,” recalled Boenning, who plans to study business. “I could not find better coaches. I met the guys on the team, and they were awesome. It is where I felt home was for me for the next four years.”

Boenning will play for Head Coach Dustin White, who has led his alma mater since 2013. Last spring, he led the Cougars to their first-ever postseason tournament at the 2024 National Golf Invitational at AK-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, Arizona. 

Boenning, an Arizona Republic All-Arizona Honorable Mention as a junior, will complete his career as a four-year letter winner and three-time AIA State Championship qualifier. As a sophomore, he helped the team to the state championship and tied for eighth overall. He was 12th as a junior, and the team finished second overall.

“Dylan Boenning has done everything right the past 4 years,” said Head Coach Jon Shores. “As a freshman, he watched, worked hard, and learned what being a member of the Brophy golf team meant. He continued to learn, growing in confidence during his sophomore and junior years. Now, as a senior, he is a proven leader on and off the golf course, serving as a great model for the team's newer members. He works hard in the classroom and on the golf course, which has paid off.  Dylan is a great student and one of the best high school golfers in the state.”
 
Boenning has played some of his best golf this season. He won the Brophy Invitational by six strokes after firing back-to-back rounds of 66 at Papago Golf Course. He finished eighth as the Broncos won the Brophy Rodeo National High School Invitational presented by PING by one shot. 

With one regular season dual left before the state tournament on Nov. 6-7, Boenning and the team are taking care of the final details.

“As a team, we have the small details to work on to get that edge on the other teams,” said Boenning. “I feel like Coach Shores and the team are all on the same page. We understand what our stakes are. From experience, we know it will come down to the last nine at state. If we can keep our composure, we will be well prepared to win state.”

While a second state title will cap a great four years, Boenning said the Brophy experience has set him up for continued success, saying, “It has formed me well as a young man going into life beyond high school.”
