Swimming Wins 43rd State Title, Two Individual Titles

The Brophy College Prep swimming and diving team won the AIA Division I State Championship on Saturday with 417.5 points to defeat Pinnacle (324), Millennium (297), and Mountain View (272). The Broncos won two individual titles and recorded three top-four relay finishes and ten top-finishes in the finals on Saturday at Skyline Aquatic Center.

Junior Mark Heffern won the 200y individual medley in 1:50.54, and sophomore Patrick Dunn took the 500y freestyle in 4:33.67. Heffern was also fourth in the 100 backstroke in 51.91, while Dunn placed seventh in the 200 freestyle in 1:43.88. 

The 200 Medley Relay opened the day in third place (1:37.64) with the foursome of Finn Conley, Markus Crawford, Heffern, and Frank Sunderhaus. Thomas McCauley, Conley, Asher Gomez, and Heffern clinched the title by touching third in the 400 free relay. The 200 free relay was fourth, with McCauley, Gomez, Tritan Oudman, and Sunderhaus, who was eighth in the 50 free (21.71).

Conley touched seventh in the 100 butterfly (51.91) and 11th in the 200 free (1:44.59). Gomez was sixth in the 100 freestyle (47.44), and Oudman was eighth (48.10). Ashton Joswiak was third in the 500 free (4:34.91) and 10th in the 100 backstroke (54.80)

Brophy has now won 43 state titles, winning their first since 2019.

Head Coach Daren Brubaker was named the Division I Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season.
