Angulo Places Fourth at Flowing Wells Invitational Among Three Top Six
TUCSON - Three Brophy student-athletes placed in the multi-state, 49-team Flowing Wells Invitational. Sophomore Adam Angulo placed 4th at 144 pounds, upping his record to 32-4, Jackson Sweetman placed 5th at 190 pounds, and Blake Sweetman placed 6th at 215 pounds.
Angulo posted wins over Baylor Ceras of Corona del Sol (Fall 2:29) and Diego Villefana of Kofa (Dec 5-0) before losing to Xavier Chavez of Santa Cruz Valley Union via Fall at 5:46. He won two consolation matches to place fourth overall.
Junior Jackson Sweetman lost to Lucas Mata of Sunnyside in the semifinals at 190 after posting three straight falls. He lost to Damien Castro (Douglas High) in the consolation semifinals and his fifth-place match against Bryce Crawford of Liberty.
Sophomore Blake Sweetman lost in the semifinals, dropping his match to Aiden Ysaguire of Santa Cruz Valley Union after recording three falls in the championship rounds.
Senior MIcah Blackburn (138) and sophomore Josh Finch-Logan (285) reached the quarterfinals in their divisions. Brophy defeated Apollo 66-9 on Wednesday in dual meet action with 10 falls and two decisions. The Broncos are 16-5 on the season.

Brophy College Preparatory celebrated its 76th commencement on Saturday, May 18, at 9 a.m. in Robson Gymnasium. This graduation was significant for the Class of 2024, who began their high school journey remotely due to the pandemic.
The Class of 2024 demonstrated resilience and connection despite the challenges of starting their education online. Their unity and adaptability were evident throughout their time at Brophy, embodying their class theme: “A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.”
Valedictorian Doer Leo He delivered a memorable speech, drawing parallels to the movie "Finding Nemo" and encouraging his classmates to persevere with the phrase, "Just keep swimming." President Bob Ryan and Principal Jim Bopp also spoke, highlighting the graduates' resilience and urging them to be agents of positive change.
The ceremony concluded with a strong sense of pride and accomplishment, celebrating the Class of 2024's journey from remote learning to a united and triumphant graduation.
