Alum Chris Campbell ‘84 Named Head Coach of Brophy Tennis

Chris Campbell ‘84 will take over as the head coach of the Brophy Tennis program starting this spring, Athletic Director Josh Garcia announced. Campbell has served as an assistant coach at Brophy since 2017 and takes over for Eric Chalmers.

“I am very excited about the opportunity to guide one of the winningest high school tennis programs in recent history,” said Campbell.  “From Coach Bill Woods to Coach Eric Chalmers, Brophy tennis has been successful on and off the court.  I look forward to the challenges the past and present will pose for the program.  It’s a great group of dedicated young men.”

Chalmers will continue with the program as an assistant coach. He was named the AIA Division I State Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season in 2023, leading the Broncos to a Division I State runner-up finish and a 17-1 overall in-state record.

Campbell played two seasons at Brophy before earning a full scholarship to play at Glendale Community College. He excelled in doubles for the Gauchos.

He returned to campus to assist with the freshman team in 2017 and helped create what is now called the Bronco League in 2018, an outstanding opportunity for players who don’t make the JV roster to continue their play in the program. He took over the JV head coach duties in 2020 and has been an on-court presence with the varsity team during that time.

Brophy opens play for the 2024 season on Feb. 22.
