Rugby Falls in Home Opener to Phoenix

The U19 Brophy Rugby team fell to Phoenix 32-28 in extra time in their home opener.

The first 15 minutes were back and forth until a penalty against Brophy just outside the 22 was slotted by Phoenix 3-0. 
 
Race Bates scored through the midfield for a 7-3 lead.  Then Eddie Martinez Estrada scored on a hard run up the middle to take a 14-3 lead. Phoenix then strung a few phases on an unforced Brophy turnover and scored in the corner 14-8. Then, it was all Brophy from that moment.  Brandon Bueno had a 90m run while Bates scored on a quick tap penalty. All the tries were converted by Carter Weyrauch for a 28-8 lead.  
 
Then the wheels came off as Brophy took two concussion injuries to their center and flanker.  Phoenix then scored on several phases after a turnover and placed the score at 28-15.  Then Brophy lost three more starters to cramping. They hit Brophy with two more unconverted tries to lead 28-25.  Phoenix won the game when 7+ minutes into extra time, scoring in the right corner and converting with no time left. 28-32.
