Brophy won two relay events at the Arcadia Invitational on Friday. The Broncos foursome of Malon Colbert, Hayes Chambers, Ryan de Koning, and Luca Cannizo won the spring medley relay (100-100,200-400) in 1:33.68. Brophy (Santiago Sanchez, Jack Kyle, Sam Skrovan, and Kenoby Hetman) was seventh in the 4x1600m relay (18:26.70).
Brophy also won the 4x110 shuttle hurdle relay, with the tandem of Jack Sebald, Darius Alberty, Cree Thomas, and William DeSpong clocking 1:01.76 for the top honors.
Other top performances included Cannizo with a sixth-place finish (49.02) in the 400 meters, while Rylan Umphrey was 13th in the long jump (20-7). Jack Sebald was eighth in the 110 hurdles (14.64) and 21st in 300m hurdles.
Freshman Ryder Noche finished second in the Rising Stars 100 meters with a 10.90 and the Rising Stars long jump with a best of 21-0 at the Tiger Invitational on Friday. Nero Nuex placed second in the 110m hurdles in 15.24. Three Broncos set PRs in the 100 meters, led by Marlon Colbert in 10.91, Ryan de Koning in 10.94, and Hayes Chambers in 11.09. Connor Brown was the top finisher in the 800m at 1:59.72.
Brophy College Preparatory celebrated its 76th commencement on Saturday, May 18, at 9 a.m. in Robson Gymnasium. This graduation was significant for the Class of 2024, who began their high school journey remotely due to the pandemic.
The Class of 2024 demonstrated resilience and connection despite the challenges of starting their education online. Their unity and adaptability were evident throughout their time at Brophy, embodying their class theme: “A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.”
Valedictorian Doer Leo He delivered a memorable speech, drawing parallels to the movie "Finding Nemo" and encouraging his classmates to persevere with the phrase, "Just keep swimming." President Bob Ryan and Principal Jim Bopp also spoke, highlighting the graduates' resilience and urging them to be agents of positive change.
The ceremony concluded with a strong sense of pride and accomplishment, celebrating the Class of 2024's journey from remote learning to a united and triumphant graduation.
