Get to Know: Baseball's #27 Trey Markham

Trey Markham has been a four-year player with the baseball program, a three-year football player, and a freshman basketball player. He is a member of the National Honor Society. 
 
How is your senior season going?
“It has been alright, and we have been winning a lot of games which has been exciting. We have a chance to do a lot of good stuff in the playoffs.”
 
How fun were your back-to-back home runs games?
“It was good. You always want to stay there and hit the ball hard consistently. That is the goal.”
 
Looking ahead, what are your aspirations for the next month?
“We want to do what we can with this team because we have a chance to win a championship. It is what we are trying to do. It would be cool to go out like that.”
 
How has your focus on baseball over the last year helped you?
“I got an opportunity to go to a really good school, Rice, and it is something I am looking forward to this summer.’
 
What about the Rice commitment are you most excited about?
“I am attending school in a great city and playing for great coaches. I look forward to the opportunity to compete there and grow as a player, seeing what I can become.”
 
What has been your favorite baseball memory?
The Las Vegas trip is my favorite memory.”
 
What do your senior teammates mean to you?
“We are close, so it is fun to play together.”
 
What is your biggest strength as a player?
“My biggest strength is my power. I have always been strong and put much work into the weight room. When I got to high school, the power started showing up.”
 
There are legendary stories of two grand slam home runs in your freshman year.
“I hit two home runs over the batter’s eye. I did not hit two grand slams. It is like the story of the fish that gets bigger every time the story is told. It was back-to-back games over the batter’s eye.”
