Four Baseball Players Earn All-State Honors, Garcia Named 6A Conference Coach of the Year

The Brophy baseball team had four players named to the 2024 6A Conference All-State teams as voted on by the AIA coaches. Senior Johnny Casale was chosen for the first team, while junior pitchers Benton Hickman and Jack Lafflam joined senior Jack Meissner on the second team. Head Coach Josh Garcia ‘07 was named the 6A Conference State Coach of the Year. 

Casale, who has signed with Loyola Marymount, posted an 8-2 record over 12 starts with a 1.82 ERA with 62 strikeouts. He hit .329 on the season with six doubles and nine RBI. He was also an All-Premier region first-team choice, earning AzBCA all-state first-team honors. 
 
Hickman had a dominant season with a 4-0 record with five saves over 13 appearances with a 1.33 ERA out of the bullpen. He was named the Premier Region Defensive Player of the Year and to the AzBCA first-team all-state team.. 

Lafflam went 5-0 on the season with a 1.50 ERA over nine starts. He was an All-Premier first-team selection and AzBCA second-team all-state choice.

Meissner, a UCSB commit, was also named to the AzBCA all-state second team this season, earning all-state honors for the second time after being a first-team selection in 2023. Meissner was also an All-Premier Region first-team choice, ranking second on the team with a .398 average while leading the team in hits (39), runs (29), home runs (4), RBI (31) and stolen bases (8).

Garcia was named the AIA 6A Conference Premier Region and Arizona Baseball Coaches Association 6A Conference Coach of the Year. He led the Broncos to a 24-7 record, tying the mark for the most wins since  2012. The Broncos won their first-ever Premier Region title, posting an 8-0 record in region play and garnering the program's first region title since winning the 5A Desert Valley section in 2009. 

The Broncos were among the top teams in the state rankings all season. They entered the playoffs as the top-ranked team in the state by MaxPreps and the No. 2 overall seed in the 6A Conference, eventually losing one game short of the state championship in the semifinals. The NHSBCA/Baseball America poll ranked them as high as No. 11 in the nation, and MaxPreps listed Brophy as high as No. 24 dueing the season.
