Nine Broncos Make Collegiate Commitments

On Wednesday, the Brophy Collegiate Commitment Signing Day ceremony, hosted by the Athletics Department, celebrated the nine student-athletes who committed to playing sports in college. 

The Brophy baseball, basketball, golf, and lacrosse programs were represented with players to committing schools across the country, including Arizona, California, Colorado, Massachusetts, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, and Washington. The list includes Dylan Boenning, Golf, Washington State University; Hastings Brislin, Soccer (SC del Sol/MLS Next); Tufts University; Ryan Burbach, Basketball, Cornell University; Josh Buse, Lacrosse, Queens (N.C.) University; Ben Geist, Lacrosse, Oberlin College;  Jack Lafflam, Baseball, University of Arizona; Benton Hickman, Baseball, University of Arizona; Luke Wieskamp, Basketball, Menlo College; Harrison Yu, Lacrosse, Colorado College.

Boenning, an Arizona Republic All-Arizona Honorable Mention as a junior, will complete his career as a four-year letter winner and three-time AIA State Championship qualifier. As a sophomore, he helped the team to the state championship and tied for eighth overall. He was 12th as a junior, and the team finished second overall. Last week, he led the Broncos to the State Championship and finished second overall, with just one stroke back from being the medalist.

Brophy senior Hastings Brislin has committed to play at Tufts University after playing for SC del Sol in the MLS Next. Tufts is an NCAA Division III school in Medford, Mass., outside Boston. He has played for SC del Sol/MLS Next since the third grade and scored six goals last season.

Burbach earned Arizona Republic All-Arizona Honorable Mention honors, All-Premier Region first-team honors, and was a Sports360 AZ All-Academic selection as a junior. He averaged 10.5 points and 5.3 rebounds per game while shooting 39.6 percent beyond the arc. 
 
Buse has been a standout for the Broncos. He was an A.L.L. first-team selection in 2024 after leading the team to the State Championship, tying for the team lead with 63 goals and totaling 15 assists. He has been a three-year letter-winner, tallying 155 points, 126 goals, 29 assists, and three state titles.
 
Geist’s love of the game grew from playing three years for the Brophy program, including the last two on the V1 squad, and helping the program to two Arizona Lacrosse League State Championships. As a junior, he scored twelve goals and had 20 ground balls. 

Hickman had a dominant season with a 4-0 record as a junior, with five saves over 13 appearances and a 1.33 ERA out of the bullpen. He was named the Premier Region Defensive Player of the Year on the AzBCA first-team all-state team. He helped the team reach the AIA semifinals and win the premier Region title.

Lafflam went 5-0 on the season in 2024 with a 1.50 ERA over nine starts. He was an All-Premier first-team selection and AzBCA and AIA 6A Conference second-team all-state choice as the Broncos won the region title and made a deep playoff run to the state semifinals.

Wieskamp played his first season at Brophy as a junior after transferring from Muscatine High in Muscatine, Iowa.  Wieskamp averaged 6.0 points and 4.2 rebounds while shooting 45 percent from the field. He helped the Broncos reach the AIA Open Division quarterfinals with a season-high 20 points in the win over Desert Vista in the Open playoffs.

Yu was named to the All-Arizona Lacrosse first team in 2024 after recording 49 ground balls, and 21 caused turnovers, adding 14 goals and 17 assists. He has won three Arizona Lacrosse State titles over his first three seasons.
